Pissed off Bastards of Bloomington MC Founding

The Pissed Off Bastards Of Bloomington Motorcycle Club is a one percenter motorcycle club founded in 1945 in the town of Bloomington, California, which is just south of the larger town of San Bernardino, California.

Like many other motorcycle clubs of the day, the Pissed off Bastards of Bloomington were made up mainly of ex-servicemen. But they also included a man by the name of Otto Friedli, who we will mention later in this article.

They were originally both a motorcycle and car club, however the involvement with cars would later drop off in around 1950.

POBOB MC still exists today, but now in the form of the clubs the Pissed off Bastards of Berdoo, who are spread throughout both California and Nevada.

The one percenter motorcycle club often use their acronym of POBOB MC for simplicity instead of the full name of Pissed off Bastards of Berdoo Motorcycle Club, although the “B” could also be said to stand for Bloomington.

Involvement in the Hollister Riot

The Pissed off Bastards of Bloomington attended the now infamous Hollister riot, which was part of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) event, the Gypsy Tour Motorcycle Rally, based in Hollister, California.

The media of the day listed the Pissed off Bastards of Bloomington, the Boozefighters MC the Market Street Commandos and the Galloping Goose Motorcycle Club amongst the main clubs involved in the activities.

Another rally, for Labor Day weekend, was held shortly after in Riverside, California by the American Motorcycle Association (AMA), which also according to the media got out of control, which was to forever cement the opinion that these outlaw clubs were out of control. This was the beginning of the rise of the one percenter motorcycle club.

Hollister Riot Drunk Biker

The most famous photo from the Hollister Riot was of a drunken man sitting on a motorcycle and surrounded by beer bottles which was published in LIFE magazine, however there is no evidence that he was actually a member of any of the motorcycle clubs.

It was out of the Hollister Riot event that the AMA stated that 99% of motorcyclists were law abiding citizens, which implied that 1% were not. The 1%er, or one percenter, was then coined and patched.

The 1953 movie “The Wild One” starring Marlon Brando was based on the Hollister Riot.

POBOB MC Connection with the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club

Otto Friedli, one of the members of the Pissed off Bastards of Bloomington who we mentioned earlier in this article, left the Pissed off Bastards of Bloomington in 1948 and decided to start his own club.

Otto Friedli started this new club on March 17th, 1948, which he and the other founding members decided to name the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club.

The Market Street Commandos, who also attended the Hollister riot mentioned above, joined Otto Friedli and the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club in 1954, which then marked the beginning of the Hells Angels San Francisco Chapter.
