Thunderguards MC are a black one percenter motorcycle club founded in 1965 in Wilmington, Delaware.
The Thunderguards have strong ties to the Pagans Motorcycle Club.
Thunderguards MC History
The Thunderguards Motorcycle Club were founded in Wilmington, Delaware in 1965. They are an all black outlaw motorcycle club.
The original members were Buckie (who is said to have chosen the name of “Thunderguards”), Junkyard, Fishman, Billy C, Charlie, Gordie and Cuppie. The group of men to join next were given the title of “7%ers”, they were Big Leonard, Joe, Lensey, Marvin, Sonny, Sam and Soulman.
In 1979 a board was voted in with one of the founding members, Sam, being selected as the President.
Originally the club used the houses of the founding members for meeting, but then opened a clubhouse in 1966 on 9th and Wilson in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1970 they moved to Gordon Street and then in 1983 moved again to 28th and Northeast Blvd.
2014 – 11 April, 2014. The Criminal Nuisance Abatement Act is used to attempt to shut down the Thunderguards clubhouse in Wilmington, as it had seen “ongoing and violent criminal activity”, including multiple shootings (see photo of the clubhouse further down in this article).
2014 – 14 May, 2014. The club agree to vacate their Wilmington clubhouse, however later change their mind and claim that they wish to instead turn the clubhouse into a community center facility where youth can be mentored and relationships can be built amongst the community.
Thunderguards MC Patch / Motto / Colors
The Thunderguards MC patch is very simple, consisting of red lightning bolt. The font used for the lettering is quite unique, as most other motorcycle clubs usually opt for very clean Sans Serif style fonts.
One of the Thunderguards Motorcycle Club mottos is “As brothers we ride, with black pride”.

There are no famous members of the Thunderguards Motorcycle Club in a celebrity sense.
Thunderguards MC Crime / In The Media
2006 – 22 October, 2006. A search warrant is executed at the Wilmington chapter clubhouse following a shooting. The search discovers drugs, drug paraphernalia and nine firearms.
2007 – 11 August, 2007. A man is shot in the knee while in the parking lot of the Wilmington chapter clubhouse. No suspects were identified.
2007 – 27 October, 2007. One person is shot and killed, and two others also shot, in the parking lot adjacent to the Thunderguards Wilmington clubhouse. All three men were said to be in the parking lot looking to meet women. One of the three is alleged to have been in the parking lot attempting to buy drugs.
2008 – 10 May, 2008. A man is shot while getting out of his car outside the Thunderguards Wilmington clubhouse. The victim stated that an unknown person approached him and shot him, so he ran. He then heard additional shots being fired. A Thunderguards member then flagged down a police car. No suspects were identified.
2012 – 11 October, 2012. As part of a police investigation of the Thunderguards, phone taps discover two Thunderguards members arranging a drug transaction of five ounces of cocaine. Surveillance is then organized and they follow the seller to the buyer’s house to watch the transaction. The buyer is then followed to the Thunderguards Wilmington clubhouse.
2012 – 4 November, 2012. The police respond to a complaint that a man in the Wilmington clubhouse has a gun. On arrival they find two men with gunshot wounds, one who later dies from the wounds.
2012 – 5-6 November, 2012. As part of “Operation Thunderclap” a three month police investigation into the drug transactions performed by the Thunderguards Motorcycle Club.
Side note: Funnily enough, “Operation Thunderclap” was the codename given to a World War II mission which was planned to cause mass destruction to German forces, but never went ahead as it was determined that the plan was unlikely to work.
Police execute 10 search warrants, all but one which was in the New Castle County area. 8 are arrested. Over 2kg of cocaine is seized worth an estimated $100,000 along with 167 grams of marijuana, $41,000 cash and over a dozen firearms.
